You know I like to dive into fun “contained” projects, like the Sketchbook project here. I like these projects that have little or no pressure and allow me just to have some creative fun. This one is called the “International Fake Journal Month” (IFJM), and there still is time to join if it appeals to you!
Roz Stendahl is the creative mind behind IFJM. I’ve been following Roz’s blog for some time, and had her as a teacher during Sketchbook Skool . After finishing the third session of SBS, I finally thought I was up for this project. (By the way, I highly recommend Sketchbook skool. I’ve taken all 3 courses, and will be doing the 4th. You get a lot of bang for your buck, and it’s great if you want to start or restart your sketching.)
The premise is that you keep a ‘fake’ journal for the month of April: fake entries in real time. I’m not really a journaller, but I definitely am someone who works/plays in sketchbooks. I’m going to try to keep it fairly simple, so that it’s achievable without a huge time commitment.
You can read more about it here, at the IFJM blog.
I’ve decided my character is “Kate” who is 20ish, she is a student and she has gerbils. I’ve also decided what sketchbook I’ll be using; it’s small (5.5″x8.5″) with exactly 30 pages! It also has paper that is only meant for drawing, so I won’t be too tempted to try all sorts of other media (eg. watercolor) on it. I’ve been brainstorming ideas for the journal (since I’m not a diarist by nature, I have to think ahead!). I do know for sure that I will be using instagram (I’m @valerie_firepan )as a source for ideas – I’m now following some gerbils. I also think that I will try to consistently write in (aside from drawing); this may be the hard part.
I’m quite excited about this, and think it should be fun! It starts next Wednesday, April 1st – so there still is time to join!
