First snow

We awoke this morning to about 4 inches of snow.  I know, it’s not a lot in the grand scheme of winter, but the first substantial snow is always a shocker!  Before I started shoveling, I took some snow snaps.

The crazy snow caps on these Echinacea were what gave me the idea to get the camera out!

Yes, I was late getting the bird bath heater out! It took me at least 1/2 hour to melt the ice for the birds.

One of the new Rhododendrons with a nice dusting of snow.

Hoppy thought it would be fun to go out in the snow. The problem (for him) is he doesn't like it when it comes up too high on his legs!! I didn't have to worry about him running away....

Gemstones – Turquoise

Turquoise is such a popular gemstone, you would think I would have lots of examples in my gemstone collection.  Surprisingly, though I don’t.  I don’t really know why, since the color turquoise is one of my all time favorites. Up until the last Ancaster Gem and mineral show in September, I only had a few… Continue Reading

They were just kids…

When we were in Washington, DC we visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. If you are unfamiliar with this memorial, it was designed by an architect, Maya Lin, while she was a student at Yale.  Her design won a competition that drew more than 14oo entrants.  Apparently some people were upset because it isn’t the usual… Continue Reading
