Creative color challenge – Rites of Spring

Yes, as February draws to a close it’s time to reveal what I was inspired to make for the Creative color challenge.

I can’t say that February is my favorite month – normally.  This year, we got off easy (in southern Ontario) with mild weather and hardly any snow.  I am a little concerned about how my perennials will do without the extended snow cover.  One the bright side, the snowdrops are up; and I think I see the tips of the crocuses coming!  Spring is coming!

The color challenge this month fit in with the coming of spring.  This month, Louise chose lavender and green as the colors and the added twist was to add texture.  This color combination is right up my alley (unlike the orange of January), and really cheered up my February.

Once again, I got to play with my enamels.  This time I enameled a precious metal clay (fine silver) component I had made last year that has some fun texture on it.  When I was mulling over my design, I had a stroke of inspiration and decided to use a stone as well!  Yippee!  How fun.  I also thought the stone should be set into a textured background with an organic feel – so I got out the hammers and forged away.  You know how much I love my hammers (I see I haven’t mentioned my hammers in awhile, what a terrible oversight – I have new ones to show you)!

Anyway, here is the finished pendant: “Rites of Spring”

I’m really happy with how it turned out, and with this month’s challenge really was a labour of love!

Hope you are well, and have stopped/stooped to admire the snowdrops!

A day out: in Toronto

Scott has been off this week, taking some vacation to start with the painting of the house.  This is the year for house projects so I may be talking about that here, on occasion!  Anyway, we took this as an opportunity to have a day out. We had a fun day on Wednesday, in Toronto… Continue Reading

500 Beaded Jewellery! I’m in!

The post on the new enamel pendants is temporarily postponed… In case you didn’t see the news on facebook (and by the way, are you friends with me on facebook?):  I had two of my necklaces juried into this book! This is one of the 500 series books that are put out by Lark Books. … Continue Reading
