The Creative Color challenge for September was ‘vintage’. If you use the link to pop over to Louise’s blog post you will see the palette she chose. I read it as grays and gray/blue, but it seems that my monitor may be a little off because she read it as creams and browns! Oh well, I guess that is called artistic license – ha, ha….
I found the theme of vintage to be a stretch. I do like vintage, especially clothes and home furnishings. However, my jewellery style is not vintage, whether it is work that I design and make or work that I admire. Of course, I see now that people selling vintage clothes are calling the 1980’s vintage so maybe I just need to bring my idea of vintage a little more into the present!
I decided to get out my watercolors from the rendering class we had to take in the Jewellery Arts program and see what I could get up to with them. I thought it would be fun to bust out the Payne’s gray. As well, I was trying to practice not being so heavy handed with the paint at any one time. Instead, I practiced building up layers of color. So, here is my interpretation of vintage lace….
