The first flower of spring 2013!

This past Saturday (March 9) I saw the first flower in my garden, for 2013!  I had been keeping an eye on my patch of snowdrops, because they often are out by now (for a week or two).  This year the snow kept the flowers down though.

However, the snowdrops were beaten – one of these little beauties came up first:

I wasn’t able to get a photo of the flower on Saturday, so by Sunday there were big changes!

The one that looks a little larger is the actual first bloomer!

Overnight, all these little fellas popped up! You can see how small they are - I'm standing and looking down at them in this photo.

And look closely at this pair - an adult insect has already moved in!

Coming in second (by blooming on Sunday) were the snowdrops:

A little clump of snowdrops, forcing their way through the forget-me-not plant.

A single spring beauty!

Very soon it will be nice enough to get out in the garden!  I can’t wait.

What’s blooming in your neck of the woods?
